Translations according to the standard
Since 2007 TL TRANSLATIONES has prepared all its translations in accordance with the stringent demands which the European standard DIN EN 15038 places on personnel and technical resources, quality management and project management of translation service providers.
Qualified translators and proofreaders
The linguistic, technical and cultural expertise of the translators and proofreaders is one of the most important requirements of the DIN standard. It requires a recognised university degree as a translator or at least five years of professional translation experience as well as continuous up-dating of required skills by means of advanced training and education.
The translation process
A qualified translator is expected to pay close attention to correct terminology, grammar and spelling, to maintain the style required by the customer, bear in mind local and regional textual conventions and take account of the target group and the purpose of the translation. Furthermore, the translator must be proficient in the application of research tools and technical resources.
Quality proofreading
Every translation is proofread by a second qualified translator. The proofreader checks the quality of the translation, compares the source text and the target text with regard to terminological consistence and reviews stylistic particularities. Finally, the format of the target text is compared with that of the source text and necessary adjustments made.
Expert proofreading
The technical experts, such as lawyers, also have expert knowledge in the respective target language. In a further proofreading stage, they check the correctness of the legal translation in terms of content, specific terminology and textual conventions.
Quality management
The service provider must have a quality management system to monitor the quality of the translations and, where necessary, undertake corrective action after delivery.
A certified translation agency will request reference material from the customer, where this will aid the understanding of ambiguous passages in the source text and ensure the terminological coherence of the translation.
Project management
The project manager plans the translation process. He selects the right translators, proofreaders and expert proofreaders for the job, and is responsible for the coordination of all those involved. He coordinates the timetable and delivers the translation by the delivery time agreed with the customer. The standard requires the exact logging of every individual translation project – from the preparation of the offer with price and delivery conditions to the final delivery of the translation to the customer. The current status of the project can thus be identified at any time. This ensures that the overall process can be traced back in detail after the project has been completed.
